Health Effects of Tobacco

Serious diseases can be prevented if people avoid or quit smoking or chewing tobacco, which can cause serious health problems, such as:

  • Different types of cancer including lung, mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, stomach, kidney and pancreas.
  • Diseases that affect breathing, such as bronchitis and emphysema. Tobacco damages air sacs in your lungs.
  • Stroke
  • Heart disease
