YELLOWKNIFE, September 30, 2021 – The Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak in the Aven Manor long-term care facility in Yellowknife.

The CPHO declares an outbreak in a long-term care facility when one person who lives or works in the facility develops COVID-19. As of Sept. 30, 2021 there is one confirmed case of COVID-19 linked to the long-term care facility.

Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) has implemented protective measures in long-term care facilities for the duration of COVID-19 pandemic, including continuous masking of all staff and visitors, vaccination, staff and visitor screening questionnaires, and limitations to numbers of visitors.

The facility is now closed to visitors. Today further outbreak response measures, including site wide testing for staff and residents, and enhanced environmental cleaning, were implemented.
