Two confirmed COVID-19 infections at Imperial Oil worksite in Norman Wells; no public exposure risk

YELLOWKNIFE-APRIL 28, 2021 – The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCPHO) has confirmed that two people have tested positive for COVID-19 today in the Northwest Territories at the Imperial Oil worksite in Norman Wells.

The cases are non-resident workers diagnosed on inbound screening. They did not acquire the infection onsite and the two individuals with COVID-19 are not linked.  OCPHO is not declaring a facility outbreak at this time. Both individuals are currently self-isolating at a secure location onsite and doing well.

There is no public exposure at this time. A contact tracing investigation is ongoing.

Transport of non-resident workers to and from the site is done by direct charter.
