Overview
This funding helps NWT schools promote health and wellness topics that matter to their students and communities. Schools can apply for up to $5,000 to support activities that encourage healthy choices, build life skills, and share knowledge around classrooms, homes, and communities.
How to apply
The funds for the School Health Promotion Fund have been exhausted for the 2025-2026 year, and we are no longer accepting applications. The fund will reopen on April 1st, 2026.
Eligibility
To qualify for funding, your school must:
- Be located in the Northwest Territories
- Be an Elementary and/or secondary schools delivering Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 education and listed on the NWT Schools Directory on the Education, Culture and Employment website
Not eligible
- Private schools, home schools, and colleges/post secondary educational institutions.
Funding details
- Each school may receive up to $5,000
- Schools may submit more than one proposal per year.
After you apply
- You will receive confirmation of receipt of your application within 7 business days
- If additional information is needed, Health Promotion staff will contact you
- Payments may take 1 to 3 months to be processed, we will work to have these processed as quickly as possible once all needed information has been received

Eligible expenses
Funding may be used for:
- Programming costs such as wages, materials, facility and equipment rentals
- Traditional structures including teepees, smoke houses, yurts, or wall tents
- Food safety education and training
- Administration fees up to 5 percent of total costs
Ineligible expenses
Funding cannot be used for:
- Purchase of vehicles, snowmobiles, or all-terrain vehicles
- Capital projects such as new construction, major renovations, or infrastructure installations
