Two Fentanyl-Related Deaths in the NWT
YELLOWKNIFE (December, 8 2020) – Today’s advisory is to alert the public of two opioid related deaths based on toxicology reports provided by the NWT’s Chief Coroner.
The two deaths occurred this fall in separate Northwest Territory communities. The deaths are considered likely as a result of the opioid fentanyl.
The yearly number of apparent opioid related deaths in NWT are: 5 deaths in 2016, 1 death in 2017, 2 deaths in 2018, 1 in 2019, and 2 in 2020 thus far.

Updates to Self-Isolation Protocols Effective Immediately
Entire household must self-isolate for 14-days with returning travelers unless they have self-contained suite. Non-essential travel outside of NWT strongly discouraged.
YELLOWKNIFE 18 November 2020 – In light of record-levels of COVID-19 cases across Canada, the NWT Chief Public Health Officer is making changes to self-isolation guidance for returning travelers.
These new rules are not retroactive. They apply to all travelers and their households arriving after the issuing of this Public Health Advisory on November 18.
Anyone in NWT Who Has Traveled From the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut Must Self-Isolate Immediately
Update from Nunavut on COVID-19 indicates cluster of infections in Whale Cove.
YELLOWKNIFE 17 November 2020 – Anyone in the Northwest Territories who has traveled from the Kivalliq Region in Nunavut at any time in the last 14 days must self-isolate immediately for 14 days since arrival.
This includes the following communities:

Travelers from COVID-19-affected communities in Nunavut must self-isolate immediately; all travelers from Nunavut already in NWT must self-monitor; all travellers from Nunavut required to self-isolate on arrival beginning tomorrow
YELLOWKNIFE 16 November 2020 – In light of rapid changes to COVID-19 activity in Nunavut, there are immediate changes to the Northwest Territories travel bubble with Nunavut. The Chief Public Health Officer has issued a verbal order pursuant to s.29 of the Public Health Act.

Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Test in Fort Smith
No outstanding contacts in the NWT. No public risk identified.
YELLOWKNIFE 11 November 2020 – A positive COVID-19 test has been confirmed in Fort Smith.
The case is related to travel outside of the territory. The individual, along with household contacts, are all appropriately isolated.
There has been no risk identified to the community as appropriate self-isolation procedures were followed by members of the household after travel.
There are no outstanding contacts within the NWT.
