NORTHWEST TERRITORIES - (November 11, 2023) – The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCPHO) is alerting the public of two recent suspected overdose deaths in the territory. 

YELLOWKNIFE – 18 October 2023. The Chief Public Health Officer is issuing a public health advisory related to a case of hepatitis A confirmed in a food handler working at two Edmonton restaurants inside Edmonton International Airport.

Any NWT individuals who consumed food or drink purchased from the locations mentioned below between the dates and times may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

HAY RIVER - (October 13, 2023) – The detection of carfentanil mixed with benzodiazepine in Hay River has prompted the Chief Public Health Officer to issue a public health advisory warning the public about the dangers associated with the illegal drug supply. Though Hay River has had ongoing detection of carfentanil and fentanyl in other drugs the addition of benzodiazepines makes this a particularly toxic mixture.

NORTHWEST TERRITORIES (September 26, 2023) – The Chief Public Health Officer is updating the Air Quality website to simplify information for residents. The new webpage uses information from PurpleAir® sensors and the Canadian Air Quality Health Index to help residents determine their own health risks due to adverse air quality.
