Individual Diagnosed With COVID-19 in Fort Liard

Rapid response team being deployed to assist in investigation

 

YELLOWKNIFE January 16, 2021 – A positive COVID-19 diagnosis has been made in Fort Liard.

This diagnosis is related to travel outside the Northwest Territories.

The individual is currently isolating and doing well.

Actions taken

Public health has isolated known close contacts. A rapid response team is being deployed to assist in further investigation. 

Public risk

The investigation is at very early stages.

However, public health has assessed there is some likelihood of additional COVID-19 cases being discovered based on what is known.

There is currently no public exposure notices in-effect.

The rapid response team will be working on-the-ground to collect additional information about potential public risks.

What you can do

If you are in Fort Liard, we recommend avoiding any gatherings of any size with those you do not live with for the time being.

Sticking to healthy habits we know work to stop COVID-19 in its tracks will also help you take some control of your risk.

  • Self-isolate whenever required
  • Prioritize physical distancing of at least six feet (2 metres)
  • If you’re feeling even a little sick, stay home,
  • Call your health centre or public health unit at the first sign of any sickness to get tested for COVID-19
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Keep coughs and sneezes to yourself

Public health may issue additional local guidance when more data becomes available. There will be further updates as we learn more.
