YELLOWKNIFE 20 March 2020 – A male husky cross dog (named Kit) from Cambridge Bay, was held at the Yellowknife SPCA from March 11th to March 14th (Photo below). It developed signs and symptoms of rabies on March 14. 

It was euthanized and tested for rabies. The test was positive. It was held in a cage outside the building for a time.

If you or someone you know had direct contact saliva of this dog between March 10th and 14th you or that person are potentially at risk of rabies and should call Environmental Health at (867) 767-9066 ext. 49262 to have a risk assessment done to determine if you need treatment for rabies exposure. Any airline staff who may have had contact should call as well.

Rabies can be fatal in humans without treatment.
