Eligibility

Marriage Commissioner / Temporary Marriage Commissioner

  • Must be 19 years or older
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must provide reason for requesting appointment

If you are a non-NWT-resident, you can only request for a Temporary appointment. You must provide the date of the wedding in order to receive a Temporary Appointment.

Registered Cleric / Temporary Registered Cleric

  • Must be ordained by the church
  • Church must be registered and recognized within the NWT
  • Support letter required from the church

When submitting the application, please provide:

  • a copy of Ordination papers;
  • letter of support from the church; and
  • incorporation documents from the church, if new or not already incorporated in the NWT

Marriage License Issuer

  • Must be 19 years of age or older
  • Must be an NWT resident
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen
  • Must provide reason for requesting appointment
