Mosquito Borne Diseases

Mosquitoes are a natural part of the environment, but are also seen as a nuisance to most people. In NWT the risk of getting West Nile virus or other mosquito-borne diseases is very small due to our short season and the type of mosquitoes that are found in NWT. Mosquitoes currently found in NWT do not carry Malaria, West Nile Virus, or Zika Virus. It is a good practice to take steps to protect yourself while on vacation in other parts of Canada and the world from mosquito bites.

The Public Health Agency of Canada posts the latest information about West Nile Virus and Zika Virus on their website.

Information for residents travelling outside of Canada
